My own path of growth is what lead me to becoming a therapist. Before opening my own practice, I worked several years for Orange County Adult Mental Health where I was a therapist, intake coordinator, and member of the psychiatric evaluation team. I also worked for Chino Human Services, where I acquired additional experience working with teenagers, and adults with a wide range of problems including relationship issues, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and mental disorders.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked for Cal Poly Pomona as an Interpreter for the Deaf & as an Academic Advisor for students with Learning and Psychological Disabilities. Working with this population really helped me understand how people have individualized needs and I learned how to address those needs while coming up with a plan that would help students achieve academic success. These experiences influenced my work as a therapist and has provided me with tools so I can be more effective with my clients.
I decided to leave the world of academia and interpreting, to pursue a career where I could continue helping people, but in a more personal setting. I have had challenges in my own life, causing me to feel overwhelmed and, at times, depressed. With these challenges, I learned how to trust another for support in healing and growth. I have formed my own practice to provide my clients with opportunities to make choices so they can shape their own lives and relationships as they want. Bearing witness to my clients growth as they empower themselves to make positive changes is extremely rewarding and humbling.
I have a Master’s degree in Counseling from Cal State Fullerton and a Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Studies from Cal State Northridge. My training includes couples counseling, crisis management, depression, family counseling, and working with the GLBT population. I continue to expand upon my clinical knowledge and skills through ongoing trainings. I am also a member of the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (CAMFT) as well as sit on the Board of Directors for Orange County CAMFT chapter.
Personally, I reside in the Chino Hills area. I grew up in Southern California and have lived here in the Brea/Diamond Bar/Chino Hills area off and on for about 20 years now. When I’m not working, I can usually be found hiking, working out at the gym, SCUBA diving or rollerblading at the beach.
